berry peach pie

so, i don't know when the last time i made a pie was, or even if i ever have.  i typically don't bake.  but ,when we got the first peaches of the season with our moore farms and friends order last week and they were described by the head farmers as needing some extra sweetness, i decided i would make a pie. it was delicious!  i think this experience, may have prompted me into doing some more baking...

here is the recipe, if any of you want to try it yourselves...

berry peach pie (adopted from mark bittman's peach pie recipe)

heat the oven to 450 degrees.  peel 4 small peaches, pit, slice, and toss with the juice of a half of lemon.  add about 1 cup of blueberries to the peaches.

mix together 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, and 1 1/2 tablespoons of cornstarch and then toss the peaches and berries with this mixture.

pile the fruit mixture into a pie crust (i cheated and bought mine from whole foods since i like their pie crusts so much).  dot with a few small pieces of butter.  then cover with another pie crust.

put the pie on a baking sheet and brush the top with a little water and sprinkle with sugar.  cut a few slits into the top crust to allow steam to escape.  bake for 10 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350 degrees and bake for another 45 minutes or until it is golden brown.  cool on a rack before serving.

excuse me, while i go have another piece...
