2011 boston marathon

we spent a very fun two days in boston.  thanks, in large part, to our wonderful hosts, darcy and marissa.  of course, the feature of our trip was the 115th running of the boston marathon.  here are a few of my favorite photos of the trip.

we arrived the day before the race and headed down to hynes convention center to pick up david's running packet.  boston already had some of the streets closed for the big event, so we took advantage of the lack of traffic to pose david at the finish line.

on race day, darcy, marissa, and i claimed our spot along the curb in coolidge corner just before mile marker 24 to cheer on the runners.  it was amazing to watch all of them run past us...we got to see the race winners and the famous celeb elite runners up close!  here is the lead women's time truck, followed by the 3 female leaders, and then one of my running faves, kara goucher who was 7 months post-partum (unbelievable).

and, here come the male leaders and fourth place american, ryan hall...

shortly after the elites ran through brookline, david came running by...well, not exactly RIGHT behind the elite runners, but pretty close:)  i was too busy cheering for him when he came by so my picture is of him running away in the distance- he is right in front of the man with the royal blue shirt (i zoomed in to confirm).

3 hours and 32 minutes after crossing the start line, david finished his first boston marathon and aside from a few bloody blisters and an almost falling off toenail, he said it was his easiest marathon yet!  this was more than remarkable since he did less then 20 training runs to prepare for this race!

me + my favorite boston finisher.  way to go, sweets...i love you!
